In the Green (demo)

from Swampling (demo) by Kat Parent

/

about

The first demo of a whole batch of new songs! I'm recording songs!!!

This one came out of imagining processes of change, loss and unlearning as a kind of healing decomposition, with inspiration from swamps and comic book hero Swamp Thing.

lyrics

shipwreck in the deep
not lost, not asleep
I'm poured out of shape
become rich and strange

(in the green green green)

this soul all unmoored
in millions of spores
slow rotting that feeds
a tumult of seeds

these bones are a choir
landscape of desire
my backbone uncurled
my tendrils unfurled
the lungs of the earth
the tongues of the dirt
a chorus rebirth
a chorus rebirth
a cosmos of grief
a riot of leaves
I have not escaped
I've only been changed

nothing left to fade
but constants of change

I'm poured out of shape
become rich and strange
what perished in flames
took thousands of names
I have not escaped
I've only been changed
oh, be not afraid
oh, be not afraid
