Shadows (demo)

from Swampling (demo) by Kat Parent

/

about

a lullaby to shadows, blessedly dim rooms, and the space inside me that holds many truths until I am ready to know them. a love song to darkness, queerness, neurodivergence, and myself as a lonely nerdy kid sketching and humming to let my mind shift into a place without words or judgment.
this is where my music comes from.

lyrics

to shadows:

Sketching doorways til they lose their lines
and open alleys to my secret mind
Bored of waiting with the nameless fears
I made friends with shadows in the lonely years

(my shadows, my sweetness, my darkness, my love)

Keeping daydreams in a candy tin
my patchwork tales to carry longings in
too much danger there to speak aloud
but you sang inside me as I froze and bowed

always stumbling when they yelled "straight lines"
caught the blast and bluster for each step off time
in florescence of a spotlight call
I still bend and quaver, I will falter, fall

At my strongest in the dim-lit room
As cool as cedars casting spells at noon
Give me ripples in the shining dark
I play luminescent, I will teem with sparks

My hands will shuttle to untangle sounds
my tongue can weave the shreds of time unwound
a song that whispers what you dare not know
a womb that holds the truth you'll someday grow

(my shadows, my sweetness, my darkness, my love)
